《大卫之星》一书是由意大利著名插图画家、国际安徒生奖插画奖获得者罗伯特·英诺森提绘制插图，美国作家鲁丝·范德齐创作文字的作品。原版书由美国的一家出版社出版，明天出版社引进出版了中文简体字版。

针对最近有些读者通过打电话和发邮件联系我们，对我社出版的《大卫之星》中文版一书的封面上使用了一个黄色的五角星提出异议，有些读者还就此问题提出了激烈的指责。我们对这个问题十分重视，专门与美国的出版社进行了联系，把这个问题反映给他们，他们也做出了相应的解释。

以下是明天出版社的编辑与出版《大卫之星》英文版的美国出版社的出版人，就该书封面使用五角星而不是六角星的问题进行的对话。出版《大卫之星》英文版的出版社是一个犹太家族所属的出版社，其出版人就是犹太人，对于犹太民族和犹太教的风俗、习惯和相关知识颇多了解。 

 

明天社： Now I've a problem to inquire you or your colleagues. Recently we received lots of telephones and e-mails from some Chinese readers. They asked us that on the cover of Erika's Story, there is a yellow pentacle, rather than a hexagram. They say that the Hexagram is the MOGEN David (or Shield of David), the symbol of Jew,

现在有一个问题向你或者你的同事咨询。最近我们接到了很多中国读者的电话和邮件。他们提出，在《大卫之星》一书的封面上有一个黄色的五角星，而不是六角星。他们说六角星是大卫之盾，是犹太人的标志……

 

美国的出版人：That is correct.

这没错。

 

明天社：……but the pentacle is a kind of symbol of improbity to Jew. 

……但是对犹太人来说，五角星是一种邪恶的象征。

 

美国的出版人：I don't think this is true whatsoever. I have never heard of this claim, nor heard it in response to the book - even though we also have been asked many times why we did not use the Star of David on the book.

无论从哪个方面说，  我认为都不是这么回事。我从来没有听到过这种说法，也没听到过对这本书有这种反映——即使也有人问过我们多次为什么书上没有用大卫之星。

 

Why do we design a pentacle on the cover of the book?

我们为什么在书的封面上设计了一个五角星呢？

 

We chose to use the pentacle on the cover of the book because it represents the "stars in the heavens" mentioned on page 20, it represents Erika, who on page 24 says, "My star still shines." Throughout the book the Star of David is used as a line break, then at the very end the pentacle is used. On earth we are segregated into groups, given symbols, face prejudice by the labels we are give. In the heavens, though, we are all the same, the labels disappear and we are all one - all shining stars. 

我们在书的封面上选择使用了五角星，是因为在该书的第20页上提到它代表了“天上的星星”，它代表了埃丽卡，她在第24页有一句话：“我这颗星依旧闪亮。”在整本书中，大卫之星都被用作文字段落的分隔符，然后在书的末尾用了五角星。在地球上，我们被隔离成若干群体，被赋予一些符号，并按照我们所获得的标签受到了面容歧视。但是在天上，我们都是相同的，标签消失了，我们都成了同样的东西——都是闪亮的星星。

 

明天社：Some of the readers even condemned us that we had made a serious mistake.

有些读者甚至指责我们犯了严重的错误。 

 

美国的出版人：That is a very sad and ignorant claim. I'm sorry to hear that. It is not correct.

这是一种很可悲和无知的说法。很遗憾听到这种说法。这是不正确的。

明天社：I think the designer of the cover expressed a special meaning by using the pentacle on the cover.

我认为封面的设计者使用五角星表达了一种特殊的意义。

 

美国的出版人：Absolutely, as did the author and illustrator.

明天社：I checked some materials about symbol of the pentacle to Jew. It perhaps means defending, or talisman.
